Classifying human beings on the basis of religion only, can have distorting effects in a world in which each and every one of us has multilayered identities. Looking in a holistic perspective at the differences between cultures, one might wonder if defending cultural diversities as such could not end in defending cultural conservatism. Could multiculturalism be a path to interculturalism rather than to the plural monoculturalism from which most of our conflicts arise? Should defending freedom be equal to defending western” values?
