Teamwork Arts, producer of the annual Jaipur Literature Festival and the international extensions of JLF, is all set to host another celebration of literature with JLF Rome scheduled for June 2023. Today, at a curtain raiser event to announce the literary extravaganza, festival producer Sanjoy K. Roy; AIICP Executive Vice Chairman and Ambassador Antonio Armellini; and President of MAXXI – National Museum of the 21st Century Arts of Rome Giovanna Melandri announced the launch of the Italian edition of the iconic festival at the Museum Maxxi. The festival will be supported by India-Italy Association for Cooperation and Partnership (AIICP).
The Jaipur Literature Festival, held annually in the Pink City of Jaipur, is a riot of colour, energy, ideas and music against a backdrop of readings, dynamic discussions and debates. JLF Rome will bring together an array of writers, thinkers, artists and poets to engage in stimulating dialogues and conversations on subjects ranging from fashion and design, history, visual art to literary fiction and poetry. JLF Rome will be the 10th international extension of the much-loved festival.
Hon’ble Ambassador of Italy to India Vincenzo de Luca, said, “The Jaipur Literature Festival has represented for years one of the main events in the world literary landscape. Italy has been a significant partner of JLF in recent years. This year it participated with an interview with the Nobel Prize awardee in Physics, Giorgio Parisi, and with a design exhibition between Italy and India inspired by Dante Alighieri’s Vita Nova. The event in Rome at the Maxxi has an extraordinary value, being the first in Italy to present the JLF.”
Namita Gokhale, acclaimed writer and Festival Co-director, said, “JLF is a living library, indeed a library of life. Our edition in Rome 2023 will cast light on literary and cultural connectivity, opening vibrant new dialogues and illuminating new learnings.”
William Dalrymple, historian, writer and Festival Co-director said, “Rome is one of my favourite cities and I am completely thrilled to be bringing our Jaipur festival from the deserts of Rajasthan to the storied banks of the Tiber.”
Sanjoy K. Roy, Managing Director of Teamwork Arts, who produce the Jaipur Literature Festival, said, “JLF Rome will be our first offering in the European Union. We are delighted to build a new platform for an exchange of ideas and to celebrate the word.”
Antonio Armellini, AIICP Executive Vice Chairman and Ambassador said, “I am proud and honoured to have been instrumental through AIICP in bringing JLF to Italy for the first time and would like to thank Maxxi and its President, Giovanna Melandri, for having made the event possible. AIICP (India Italy Association for Cooperation and Partnership) members are leading representatives of the business, professional, academic and communication world of the two countries, who believe that the promotion of closer relations, particularly in the economic field, must go hand-in-hand with a deeper understanding of our respective cultural, social and historical heritage; we can work better together if we understand better who we are and how our societies work. JLF is a wonderful showcase of world literature, music, dance, gastronomy and much more; bringing it to Italy will give our audiences an unprecedented chance to gain a more inclusive knowledge and thus strengthen a bond that is both historical and crucial to both of us.”
The Jaipur Literature Festival in India has been called “the greatest literary show on Earth” and has, since its conception, transformed itself into a global literary phenomenon, having hosted more than 5,000 speakers & artists and welcomed over a million book-lovers from the world over.
